Diocletian. Antoninianus. 289-290 AD. Siscia. (Ric-Unlisted). (Tesorillo-Diocleciano 11, Plate Coin). Anv.: IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust right. Rev.: CONSERVATOR AVGG, emperor standing right, Jupiter standing left, sacrificing at altar, each holding sceptre; XXIAI in exergue. Bi. 3,83 g. The example presented here is very similar to type RIC-V 2 263, although this one separates the legend from the exergue with dots (·XXI·A·I·).
Between 289 and 290, the Siscia mint codified the exergues using the nicknames of the two Augusti (Jupiter for Diocletian and Hercules for Maximian) written in Greek and separated by office. (See the publications by G. Boersema, D. Smith, and C. Scoppa.) Rare. Ex Gert Boersema, Vcoins (March 2010)
