Lot 510 | Roman Imperial

Lot description

Diocletian. Antoninianus. 284-305 AD. Cyzicus. (Ric-Unlisted). (Tesorillo-Diocleciano 5, Plate Coin). Anv.: IMP C DIOCLETIANVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev.: CONCORDIA MILITVM, Diocletian standing right, holding parazonium, and receiving Victory from Jupiter standing left, holding sceptre; S between figures, XXI in exergue. Bi. 3,20 g. This specimen resembles type RIC-V 2 258; however, that type is marked with the letter B (2nd Office). In contrast, the specimen we present here clearly shows the letter S (6th Office). What makes it special is that at that time, Siscia only operated with 3 offices. A fine specimen. Very rare. We have not found similar specimens on the reference websites. Ex Ancient Delights, at the present Mayor 25. (September 2005). Choice VF/XF. Est...120,00.
