La República Romana el senado era el pueblo de Roma de ahí las siglas SPQR. La moneda que predominaba era el denario de plata y se acuñaba en diferentes monederos “familias” que el senado otrorgaba competencias para acuñar moneda, algunas de ellas eran Flaminia, Antestia, Procilia, Cordia, Minucia, Norbana, Axia, Afrania, Aemilia y Annia entre muchas otras.

Monedas de la República Romana

Las primeras monedas romanas fueron probablemente de pequeño tamaño y valor, fabricadas con bronce en Nápoles desde el 326 a.C. Las primeras monedas de plata se produjeron en los primeros años del siglo III antes de Cristo y se asemejaban a las monedas griegas de la época. Estas monedas portaban la leyenda “ROMANO” que más tarde se convertiría en “ROMA”.

En el año 211 a.C. un nuevo sistema monetario se introdujo, el Denario, la principal moneda de plata de Roma hasta el siglo III d.C. Un Denario equivalía a 10 Ases de Bronce.

Conforme Roma se expandió, el número de tesoros encontrados y las minas de plata conquistadas en Macedonia impulsaron la producción de monedas de plata que sustituyeron gradualmente a todas las de bronce. Para el año 141 a.C. el bronce se había devaluado tanto que un Denario equivalía a 16 Ases de Bronce.

En el año 211 a.C. un nuevo sistema monetario se introdujo, el Denario, la principal moneda de plata de Roma hasta el siglo III d.C. Un Denario equivalía a 10 Ases de Bronce.

Conforme Roma se expandió, el número de tesoros encontrados y las minas de plata conquistadas en Macedonia impulsaron la producción de monedas de plata que sustituyeron gradualmente a todas las de bronce. Para el año 141 a.C. el bronce se había devaluado tanto que un Denario equivalía a 16 Ases de Bronce.
