El Dracma es la moneda más conocida entre todas las que circularon en Grecia antiguamente. Las primeras monedas griegas aparecieron a principios del siglo VI a.C., en el reino de Lidia, Asia Menor. Al poco tiempo se extendieron en las ciudades griegas de Jonia del Egeo para luego ser utilizadas en por el resto del mundo griego. Durante esta época podemos diferenciar tres períodos:

Todas las monedas se hacían a mano, con grabados y presentaciones que garantizaban que el dinero era legal y cada ciudad contaba con cuños distintos para sus monedas.Una de las monedas más valoradas de la antigua Grecia es el Decadracma de Siracusa.
