Sextilia (Mother of Aulus Vitellius). Sestertius. 16th-17th century. Anv.: SEXTILIA TO VITELLII (MATER). Veiled head of Sextilia (mother of Aulus Vitellius) on the right. Rev.: Hexastyle temple, in exergue SPQR; S C across the fields. Ae. 20,73 g. Almost certainly tooled and smoothed over a sestertius of Mariniana in the 16th-17th century. Portrait probably inspired by Illustrium Imagines (Rome 1517), "Epitome Thesauri Antiquitatum" or "Promptuaire des médaillés des plus renommées personnes" (both Lyon 1553).
