Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III, "The Great". Tetradrachm. 190 BC. Messene. Peloponnesus. (Price-756). Anv.: Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev.: Zeus Aëtophoros seated to left, holding sceptre; (AΛ)EΞANΔP(OY) to right, ME over a tripod with a small D on top in left field, ΞE / ΔI below throne. Ag. 16,13 g. Countermark seleukid anchor within incuse rectangular. On this occasion, we present an extremely rare specimen; we have found no other references on the Acsearch or Coinarchives platforms, except for the one published in Price 756 currently in the British Museum, number 1979.0318.3, which bears the same dies as the specimen we are exhibiting. Second known specimen? It also features a slight iridescent tone and graffiti on the reverse. VF. Est...600,00.
