Philip IV (1621-1665). 8 reales. 1650. Potosi. O-O. (Juan Rodriguez de Rodas). (Cal-1488). (Km-19b). Ag. 23,69 g. Extremely rare countermark "Crown with dot" within a dotted border, absent from Ullian’s list and unknown until this coin appeared in Sedwick’s Sale 12. Thin due to light corrosion but with all details visible and well defined. The crown is complete and unusually well detailed, with P/O to the left and 8/O to the right of the shield. Four-digit date and nearly complete legends. Shield and cross in the new style with a normal 5 in the date. From the treasure of "La Capitana," sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador. Slabbed by NGC as VF Details, Saltwater damage. C/S: AU Standard. Ex Daniel F. Sedwick 12, lot 486. Ex Luis R. Ponte Collection.
