Lot 174 - Spanish Monarchy

Lot description

Philip IV (1621-1665). 2 reales. 1652. Pamplona. Navarra. (Cal-892). (Ros-4.5.11, RR-5). Ag. 6,23 g. “P” flanked by dots to the left of the shield, and the value “II”—lying on its side—also flanked by dots, to the right. The base of the last digit of the date is clearly visible and, without doubt, it is a “2”, as confirmed by comparison with the 1 real denomination of the same date.

As Ricardo Ros notes in his excellent study "La Moneda de Navarra, Second Edition", no recorder any photo of this coin. Until now, this date was only known in silver issues of this reign in the 1 real and 50 reales denominations. This coin is extremely rare and appears for the first time at auction
