Lot 2078 - Roman Imperial

Lot description

Faustina Junior. Aureus. 147-175 AD. Rome. (Ric-718 (Aurelius)). (Cal-2076). (Ch-220). Anv.: FAVSTINA AVGVSTA. Draped bust to the right. Rev.: TEMPOR FELIC. Faustina standing facing, head left, holding a infant in each arm; two more children standing to her left and right. Au. 7,11 g. This coin, part of a series depicting Faustina with numerous children, probably shows only a portion of her offspring, as her biographies show that she had more than six children during her lifetime. The coin is very centered. It has a beautiful orange color with slight traces of luster. The reverse is very common in bronze and silver mintage, but very rare in gold. We have only found three examples at auctions in recent years. Very rare. Almost XF/Choice VF. Est...5000,00.
