Lot 2068 - Roman Imperial

Lot description

Galba. Dupondius. 68-69 AD. Rome. (Ric-Unlisted). Anv.: SER GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG PM TRP P P, laureate head to right, globe at point of bust. Rev.: FIDES PVBLICA, Fides standing facing, head to left, holding patera and cornucopiae; S-C across fields. Ae. 13,31 g. We have found no references to the obverse/reverse dies combination, nor to the atypical style of the bust, with more delicate art than usual. We believe it may be a hybrid strike of Vespasian (Ric - II.1 1210). Apparently unpublished. It was in hoop. Very rare.. Choice VF/Almost VF. Est...500,00.
