Lot 493 | Roman Imperial

Lot description

Numerian. Antoninianus. 284 AD. Lugdunum. (Ric-¿?). (Tesorillo-Numeriano 1, Plate Coin). Anv.: IMP C MAVR NVMERIANVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right. Rev.: Unminted. Bi. 3,55 g. A highly interesting variety; the purpose of this specimen is unknown. We believe it could be an obverse proof rather than a minting error. When minting errors occur, they generally leave some kind of trace, either an incuse or remnants of another coin; however, in this example, the surface is completely smooth. Very rare. Ex Saive Numismatique (December 2008). VF. Est...120,00.
