Lot 10 | Roman Republican

Lot description

Anonymous. Sextans. 215-212 BC. Rome. (Craw-41/9). (Sydenham-107). (Tesorillo-Anónimas 7, Plate Coin). Anv.: Head of Mercury right, wearing winged petasus; •• (mark of value) above. Rev.: Prow of galley right; •• (mark of value) below. Ae. 12,12 g. Interesting period manipulation in which the fields have been flattened, the edges filed, and a central perforation made. Over these manipulations, the reverse has been silvered, and the value IIIIII has been marked on the obverse. It was likely reused as a ponderal in the Byzantine period, equivalent to 12 Grammata or 1/2 Ounkia. Very interesting. Almost F. Est...60,00.
